DESIRE DELIGHTFULLY DEFLATED
AT LOUISE ALEXANDER GALLERY
“We found the robots to be emotional,” says artist Yasemin Baydar, taking a contemplative drag from an ever-present brown cigarillo as she takes a break from the evening opening of her latest show. Baydar and her husband, Birol Demir, both in their 40s and born in Turkey, make up the art duo :mentalKLINIK, a kind of cross cultural, multimedia, conceptual laboratory of artmaking that is as nostalgic as it is high tech. The collaborative couple have shown regularly around their hometown (most recently with a couple of outings at the Istanbul Modern museum) as well as at venues ranging from Art Unlimited in Basel to MUDAM in Luxembourg and MAK in Vienna. The exhibition, “83% Satisfaction Guaranteed,” on view through July 26th, is the first show with their new Italian representative, Louise Alexander Gallery, in Porto Cervo, Sardinia.
